Edelbrock 1406 electric choke adjustment

Did some minor adjusting tweaking the air adjustment and ran even better. I remember my stepfather bought a edelbrock 600cfm carb back in the 80s had problems with other junk but not the edelbrock products.

Bit when the engine is cold and it does open the choke fully when hot but it seems like it runs poorly no matter the adjustment of the electric choke cover and I was wondering if I had adjusted it wrong.

If you will go to the Edelbrock site they have an online manual that you can download as a pdf file that gives a good description of how to set the electric choke on the 1406. Like austin-tatious said theres a whole chapter on choke operation and adjustment in the Edelbrock owners manual. In a nutshell the choke housing is adjusted by loosening the 3 scews holding it then rotating it. This adjusts the mixture leanrich by adjusting the choke plate.

The fast idle speed is set with a screw with the eninge OFF. Loosen the screws but do not remove them. On top of the choke are index marks and the factory preset is midway between the marks.

If the choke is indexed further to the right the engine will receive more fuel when it is cold. If it is moved left it receives less fuel. Adjust the choke according to the way the car runs when it is cold.
